What is a lockable wooden box used for?

A lockable wooden box is ideal for storing personal, valuable, or sentimental items you want to keep safe and private. Whether it's jewellery, important documents, private letters, or keepsakes, a personalised wooden box with a padlock and key offers both security and style. Many people use them to protect family mementos, safeguard private belongings, or give as meaningful gifts that feel personal and secure.

Can I personalise my lockable wooden box?

Yes — all our lockable wooden boxes are made to order and fully customisable. You can add names, dates, quotes, or even a printed photo plaque on the lid. Our engraving options let you tailor the box exactly how you want it, whether you’re buying it as a gift or for personal use. We also offer a range of fonts, styles, and design layouts to make your wooden box truly one of a kind.

Does the lockable wooden box come with a real lock and key?

Yes — when you select the lockable option, your wooden box will come fitted with a secure metal clasp and a padlock with key included. It’s a practical feature that makes the box suitable for safeguarding items like jewellery, letters, or private documents. You can also choose not to add the lock if you'd prefer an open-access keepsake box.

What sizes are available for your personalised lockable wooden boxes?

At Make Memento, we offer six box sizes — from Small to XXLarge (16 to 42cm) — to suit a wide range of needs. Whether you’re storing tiny keepsakes or bulky items like photo albums or clothing, we’ve got the perfect size. Our size guide includes exact dimensions and recommendations for what fits in each box, so you can choose with confidence. You can also upgrade to our luxury oak or pine boxes for even larger options.

I’m looking for a large storage box with a lock and key — what do you recommend?

If you need a large storage box with a lock and key, our Extra Large and XXLarge wooden boxes are ideal. With generous internal space and the option to add a padlock and key, they’re perfect for storing bulky keepsakes, photo albums, folded clothing, documents, or family heirlooms. These sizes are especially popular for long-term storage or as thoughtful gifts with secure, sentimental value.

Are your lockable wooden boxes good for gifting?

Definitely. A lockable wooden box makes a thoughtful and meaningful gift for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or special milestones. You can personalise the design, choose the size, and even include a padlock and key to create a gift that’s both practical and deeply personal. Many of our customers gift them filled with keepsakes, letters, jewellery, or baby mementos — turning the box itself into part of the memory.
